Feasibility Study for Water and Sanitation Facilities in Five Towns

Consultancy Services to Carry out Feasibility Study for Water and Sanitation Facilities in Five Towns of Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Nyahururu and Garissa.

This assignment was undertaken for the Ministry of Water & Irrigation on behalf of the Northern Water Services Board. Its overall objective was to carry out feasibility study for water and sanitation and facilities in the five towns of Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Nyahururu and Garissa

Garissa: The aim was to investigate current operations and yield of the existing ground water source located within Barasa well field and then explore the qualitative and quantitative potential of Barasa well field as an alternative source of water to meet the ultimate water demand for Garissa town and its environs. The assignment also came up with the necessary engineering and hydrogeological recommendations to allow for exploitation of Barasa well field and to connect to the existing water supply infrastructure.

Isiolo: The aim was to identify new sources of water for Isiolo Town and expansion needs of the existing sewerage and to prepare Preliminary Designs with respect to the same. The assignment resulted in the preparation of TOR for detailed Design.

Marsabit: The aim was to identify new sources of water for Marsabit Town to meet the current and future demand, and new water borne sanitation system. The final outputs included the preparation of Preliminary Designs and TOR for detailed designs.

Mandera: The aim was to assess and come up with recommendations on the adequacy of the present and alternative source(s) of water for Mandera Town and its satellite townships to meet the current and future demand in terms quality and quantity, and a new water borne sanitation system. The assignment resulted in the preparation of Preliminary Designs and TOR for detailed designs.

Nyahururu: The overall aim was to assess and come up with recommendations on the adequacy of the present and also alternative source(s) of water for Nyahururu Town and its satellite townships to meet the current and future demand in terms quality and quantity, and new waterborne sanitation system. The outputs included the preparation of Preliminary Designs and TOR for detailed designs.
